1 Move 1.5 miles further down the cut to Hopwas a 15 minute trip.
2 Stay weekend enjoy pub.
As an irritating Meercat says " simples " Well not today it wasn't, we did not see a suitable mooring there, so pressed on, looking for a countryside spot, not finding one, we again moved on, now thinking Fazeley junction, would be ideal, shops, fish and chips etc,
At Fazeley Junction there was a service area at the Wharf, but we had filled up with water yesterday so didn't need to queue at the Waterpoint. We were moving slowly through the basin when we saw a boat very familiar to us from our days at Norbury last year. It was 'Duck Dave' (so called because there are lots of plastic ducks tied to Dave's boat!) When we were very newbie liveaboards Dave was one of the experienced boaters who gave us tips, sound advice and lots of encouragement. It was great to see him and catch up on his news, we were all ready to moor in the basin overnight but while we were chatting to Dave an industrial compressor attached to a freezer depot kicked in and Dave warned us that it runs noisily a couple of times an hour day and night! so......on we go, Polesworth was now our target, passing under the M42 motorway (and missing it not one bit)
On checking our stern,we noticed we were being chased by black rain clouds.....and losing the race, we got soaked, Ali bravely holding a brolly over our heads, we pressed on, only to find that the moorings were full, we are now moored a little south of Polesworth, not a spot we would picked on a dry sunny day, but we had had enough, and could see another soaking coming our way.
Today's water road.
Sunset yesterday.
Duck Dave - he's holding a lovely crochet blanket we had been keeping in case we saw him, as we know he will use it on his boat.
Yellow Flag Iris - there are lots of these coming out along the canal at the moment, softening the edges of the cut and looking colourful even when it's raining.
We are now drying out and re-charging our own batteries (not the boats!) next planned stop is Atherstone just 2 miles down the cut there will be 11 locks to work but we have been told it is a pleasant place to spend a couple of days with a few good shops.
Bye for now
Ali and Baz
Hi Baz and Ali, I just looked up Atherstone, could nt believe how close that is to the "Oxford". When you get to the Rugby area Mum and I were just saying we would love to come up and see you if and when it fits in with your plans of course. Rugby is only just over an hour away I think :-) X
