Passing Rugby

We had to move on today, mainly because we are being eaten out of boat and home by the wild fowl, their survival plan seems to be that of bang on the side of a boat until suitable and sufficient foods are supplied.

So warm was the boat last night we decided to take a porthole glass out at bedtime, this left us with a super vent right above our heads, a nice breeze was coming through to cool us and the boat. As we settled down, one noisy duck started to patrol up and down alongside us, the noise was immense, partly due to the ducks enthusiasm and vocal strength, but also the missing glass came into play.
What is it about ducks quacking that makes me laugh ( usually, not as funny after an hour when trying to get to sleep ) Of all the noises made by animals etc it must be one of the strangest, anyone think of a better one ?
The other risk ( apart from dropping and breaking the porthole glass ) is of course rain, the rain came in the early hours,  I was woken by Ali who could feel rain coming in, so lots of fumbling to locate and replace the glass,....oh well, nice while it lasted.

Some of our demanding local residents.

We followed the rail line some of the way.

View From The Side Hatch

Our view to the rear, over the other side is a golf course.

To the west of Rugby, our view to the front.

No sooner than moored, when a new lot of side tappers move in.

Can't quite work this one out.

The canal goes around Rugby, we are at about 2 o'clock as you look at a map, between Rugby and Clifton Upon Dunsmore. We have three locks to do when we move on from here, we did these locks on our terrible days tuition with a training company based near here, nuf said about that !

Bye for now,
Baz and Ali.

  1. Hi guys Its really interesting reading about your visits and the wildlife! David and I attend a folk festival in Bedworth every year in November; David used to live in Rugby. Sorry I haven't commented for AGES; work has been crazy. Hopefully it should become more manageable soon. Lots of love Sister R x

  2. Thanks for that R. Unfortunately we didn't take a look at the centre of Rugby this time round as it's quite a walk from where we were moored. Sorry work is so busy - must say we feel very lucky not to be on that treadmill any more! x
