Stoke on trent

After our soaking and the tunnel yesterday, today was going to be a walk in the park, from Longport and its nature reserve where we moored last night, through Stoke on Trent to Trentham with only six locks to do and no rain !
We have been told to get through Stoke quickly as it's not very nice, I have to say we have seen worse, and the people we spoke to  were friendly and helpful, some times you see the best scenes from the cut and other days.....well not so pretty, but what would one expect to see as you passed through what used to be the industrial heart of this area , personally I find the buildings from this era interesting, even the obviously abandoned and now derelict ones, have a strange attraction in their decay, and you can't help but wonder what it was all like in it's hay day.

You could guess where we were from this picture alone.

Waiting to be developed into fancy " waterside " apartments ?

As the lights clearly show, some pottery is still being made here, we received a friendly wave from a worker at one of the windows.

Nature slowly claiming back the site.

Entrance to a large marina and boat yard.

Just when you think you are getting the hang of your boat, you see something like this, one man at the helm of not one 70' narrow boat but two!! mind you Baz had to give him a hand bringing them in, he's holding on to the first boat while the owner knocks some pins in.

Today's View from the side hatch.

Our mooring for tonight, in the background is the Wedgwood factory.

The view ahead at our mooring, tomorrow we move a few more miles to Stone to meet some of  Ali's  family who are travelling up to see us, mind you we have 8 locks to get through before Stone, so quite what time and in what state we will be in at the end remains to be seen.
