11 locks before breakfast

Atherstone was a welcome sight, our mooring was a case of " we can squeeze in there " so long as the bow was on a pin, and the nice man behind moved up a bit, all that done, we could think about a brew and some breakfast.
We had set off early to get away from our mooring site before two young girls came back to the canal to continue their idea of duckling rescue, they had spent hours yesterday supposedly rescuing one, even bringing it to the boat for our opinion on it's current status with regard to rescue "should they take it home" and "what does it eat" they were told it was fine and to put it back near the others, they did, only to return later with their granny and a large box, we let the dogs out for a good yapping session, and to keep the ducks from coming too close to the bank of course, where they were now throwing whole slices of the cheapest supermarket  white bread, they left after a while.
They were not bad people, just a bit thick, the girls wanted a pet duck, and woe betide any duckling that they could "Rescue" so we thought we had better move before they upset us or we get too cross.

Wild, foraging donkeys ?

Part of today's water road

Past a boatyard specialising in historic work boats, ( phone number noted )

Part of the shadow under the bridge is in fact a moored work boat, very low in the water and hard to see, fortunately Ali who was on foot saw it and radioed me a warning, I do wonder at the C & RT common sense levels.

Part of Atherstone market square, we look forward to exploring tomorrow.

View From The Side Hatch

Port side, no countryside, but a town instead.

We are between two bridges, the tennis ball marks our bow mooring, short walk to the town centre.

The sun is out after another downpour. Ali is planning a simple supper of carb laden spag bol in order to build Baz up for the challenges of the next couple of days - food shop carrying fatigues, perhaps we should have enlisted the help of the donkeys seen earlier?

Bye for now
Baz and Ali

  1. Looks like a nice town - and hopefully no duck rescuers around!

    1. Is that the old ladies or the trolley that folds flat?
