Whistle stop at Whittington

We dropped down two locks, turned right, and we were now on the Coventry canal, or is the Birmingham and Fazeley ? It starts as the Coventry, changes to the B & F, then back to the Coventry, seems like people couldn't agree on the name, has all the hall marks of a committee!

Our target for the day was Whittington,a small town with a shop, we are running out of fresh goods and more importantly my beer, the cupboard shelf it's kept on is so empty, wildebeest could be seen to roam around it!!
On arriving, we took an instant dislike to the mooring spot, stuck at the bottom of the gardens of a housing estate, so it was a quick trip to the Co-Op for Ali, and off again, we are now a few minutes outside the town, and it's much more what we want, open views, all be it there is a railway line on one side.

For once we timed our trip just right, as I started to put the pram hood up, the rain started to come down, and what rain -  accompanied with thunder and lightning and strong gusts of wind, as we said
timed just right.

What is about locks that makes me want to go for a pee ?

Local gnomes gather to see Micky and Jay pass by.

Unusual narrow boat hull, shaped like a yacht.

The thunder clouds blow in.

View From Where We Would Like Another Side Hatch !!

Opposite our mooring.

To the rear, there is a train line the other side but so what !

While we've been writing the blog the thunderstorm has passed overhead and it's now looking as though sunshine and showers will be the order of the rest of today. After having our own showers we'll probably put a chicken casserole in the oven and watch a bit of telly.

Tamworth is just over 5 miles away from here, shortly after, we turn back onto the Coventry Canal at Fazeley Junction. Because we no longer have a car we do tend to see the country in a long thin strip, anything over a mile either side of the canal, we remain unaware of its existence, today we saw a road sign next to the canal, pointing the way to Lichfield cathedral, we did not realise we were that close to Lichfield, as our maps follow the cut with no geographical overview.

We may move again tomorrow.
Bye for now,
Baz and Ali.

  2. O yay hooray my mouth has been unzipped Lol!

Love the gnomes, especially the big handsome chappie in the middle. So glad you are at last enjoying a bit of fine weather. We have had some rain today but no thunderstorms and sun did nt show his face till this evening.

Mel got the lovely purse Ali, but she is very disciplined and did nt open anything till yesterday!
She did nt get the parcel from us yesterday though, hopefully won't have to wait too long.

I have spent virtually the whole day personalising my bike with
some decals which was very pleasant and relaxing 'Little things ..................'as they say.
Well soon you will be a grandma Ali! We are all looking forward to the good news.

Now going to get my canal map to pinpoint where you are

    Happy cruising!

    Lots of love Chrissie
