Hail The Marconi Twins

The radio course went well ! In case you didn't guess, we both passed and are now looking forward to registering our pass, then acquiring our VHF radio, and next ..... the tidal Thames !.....well next year probably.
We set off from Milton Keynes marina first thing, the other boaters in the marina were friendly and helpful, they deserve a better marina really, they were busy planning their Christmas meal, not something we want to think about just yet. Today's planned cruise hold a  a rare luxury..... NO LOCKS ! well for today anyway, it took a couple of hours to finally shake of the town, the canal winds it way all the way round the edge, to be fair, you hardly see the town, the trees cover most of it, we are now moored at Cosgrove a few miles north.

Ali is busy checking the hedgerows, she has made some blackberry vodka and is waiting to start a sloe gin, as soon as the sloes look ready, they seem to be a little early this year, and certainly plentiful, in fact a good year to be had for all gatherers with trees hanging heavy with crab apples and the biggest blackberries for several years.

We play with the radios, practising Mayday calls, the tutor had correctly assessed our boating ability

A cool, autumn like, misty start to the cruise

Ali catches a Heron taking flight at our arrival

For Carol, at last !

Another aqueduct, not so scary this one

Leaving the short and thankfully wide aqueduct

Getting a pleasant mooring in a picturesque place was our goal for today and we have achieved that. Cosgrove is busy with boaters and other folk walking the towpath in this ideal weather. There are footpaths so the dogs (and us!) will get some much needed exercise and a change of scene. Marina's have their uses but can feel very restrictive so we happily cruise on.

Bye for now
Ali and Baz
