Meet the Crew

Travels with narrow boat  MICKY JAY

Crew. Baz and Ali    plus                                   Archie  and Bella

You will have heard it before, two fifty somethings realising that life's passing by not ready to sit and watch each other grow old without a bit of a fight.
As we have no boating experience or even been aboard a narrow boat it of course felt the natural, logical thing to do, sell up buy a boat, push off and see what happens.
Just prior to our departure we had a knock on the door and these two " gents " had been left for us by our friends Syd and Carol, we thought we had seen the last of them after I cemented them both to their roof and chimney complete with climbing ropes ( no the gnomes were cemented not Syd and Carol ) anyway they are back with us after being away for a year or so, now we have to think of a way to get them back.
                                                        love the life jackets Carol.

So, we picked our boat up at Norbury junction and spent a few weeks pottering up and down the Shroppie canal ( or cut as we seasoned boaters call it ) much to the amusement of proper boaters as we tried to turn a  60 foot long corridor around, learn about electrics and battery life etc. we were trapped firstly by some canal closures but mainly by the fact the people that built the canal found it good sport to include installing  "locks " the name suggested to me something designed to keep you out or worse in so we avoided them, which cut down our movement options somewhat.
We have decided to have a go and have now done 25 locks and are approaching Nantwich with a rough plan of going to Chester unless we get lost or Ali changes our mind.......    stay tuned for the next episodes of fools afloat  !
