Hassall at Hassall Green

We woke up to an attempt by nature to snow us in, it failed and soon the sky seemed much brighter , so we decided to move on while we could, the next leg to the "Mac " has no less than  23 locks on it ( poor Ali ) dividing it over a couple of days seems a good idea, we completed 10 today and stopped at a place called Hassall Green with a pub, cafe, and bistro.......we thought, on arrival the cafe and bistro were closed and the pub ......well they have knocked it down....really the lengths Ali will go to to stop me having a swift half ! We can hear the M 6 motorway from our mooring and passed under it getting here, the times we have been up and down that motorway and not seen the canal never mind the locks next to it.

Fast flowing M6 seen from the stern of slow moving Mickey Jay...very slow due to being in a lock.

We have mentioned double width locks, above are double paired locks , just as much work for the windlass wench Ali, in theory easier as the gates are not so wide but it rather depends on the state of repair / disrepair they are in, note the weird coloured water in the right lock, swim any one?

TODAYS VIEW FROM THE GALLEY .

Port side, again the water colour takes getting used to, especially after the clear water on the Llangollen.
Starboard side, pleasant open views.

We have now done over a hundred locks between us, me stood still while the boat gets whacked about like a shuttle cock by the incoming or outgoing water, Ali running around the locks windlass in one hand radio in the other, then jogging ahead to the next lock to prepare it, cor it's a hard time for one of us !

Bye for now
Baz and Ali.

    1. Hi Chrissie, you can try if you want, she dosn't like being down in a lock or the approach to locks, I would rather be getting the work out than sat in a lock . Baz.
