We knew it would be tough, it's even marked on the map as " heartbreak hill " and surprise, surprise it was a s..d, not just the number of locks or the rapid way they hit you, but the condition of some of them is poor, making them hard to operate and even worse most were set against us, so we had to empty them before we could enter, and the real heartbreaker came at our proposed mooring - after 13 locks there was nowhere to moor, this forced us to continue onto the Mac itself and a further 4 locks, so we were on the go for over seven hours, However .....we have found a super off piste mooring with views and peace and quiet, so alls well that ends well eh! ( one official mooring we looked at had the view of the sewerage works on one side, a scrap yard on the other, a main road and a main railway line too)
the church at church lawton seen from the boat
another lock gate closes somwhere in the seventeen completed today.
no sooner than we arrive another tractor starts spreading muck.
So as we have said we are now on the Macclesfield canal, my brother Chris has heeded the warning of our arrival into his area and is not answering his phone or texts ( worried he may have to buy a round ) we plan a few days rest to allow Ali's shoulder to recover and you guessed it Phil - clean the boat !
Bye for now,
Baz and Ali.
