Congleton

We have been here for a few hours now, so it must be time we went to town to hand over lots of money to people standing around in shops, in fact Ali had already been into Congleton yesterday afternoon on a fact finding mission, but all she reported back was that it was b---- cold and a lot further than I had told her it was, (whoops). So we set off again this morning without a list ( oh dear ) and as many bags as we could find, to hit Morrisons and many others it turned out (surprise ), so many in fact that a taxi had to be called to stand a chance of returning to the boat without paying a visit to a cardiac unit first, the walk was not as long as Ali's tall tale of endurance in the snow, spun yesterday upon her return, and had one of my favourite types of bridge, a snake cross over bridge, which when you think the canal was built to make money, the bridges seem extravagant by today's boring concrete or bolted together girder lazy efforts.

Snake bridge, allows traffic to cross the cut and also the tow path changes side, i wouldn't like to have led a horse over one though!

cold under the bridge.
nice looking pub in Congleton that I didn't manage to get in.

some of our mornings work waits by the boat for one of us to regain some strength.

So here we are comfortably moored at bridge 80, the wind is still bitingly cold, but hurrah for the sunny intervals that have charged our batteries through the Solar panels. The weather looks set to stay cold for the rest of this week, we are hoping the wind drops a bit so that we can cruise up the canal towards Macclesfield in the next couple of days.

Bye for now

    1. We are finding that the 'Macc' has got some great bridges - sometime we will probably devote a blog to bridges cos we find them fascinating, of course we're seeing quite a few ugly concrete industral bridges as well, usually with P*****k was here sprayed on them!
