Flying Visit

Well we have had a fun day -  again all started to plan, moved out to the Bugsworth basin at the end of the Peak Forest canal where we planned to spend the weekend exploring the area, and do some shopping in Whaley Bridge. We arrived fairly early and were met by a friendly volunteer guide who explained the layout and told us we could moor anywhere, we found a nice spot and put in the pins.Ali walked the dogs while I did the important stuff.....tune in the T.V......shock horror no television signal ! The pins were out and I was off to look for a better spot, one with a chance of me seeing the Chinese Grand Prix, I don't know why we were surprised at the lack of signal as the basin was rather like a flooded Napoleonic era fort, with high walls all around us. We found another section of the basin ,but other boaters were having similar problems, they were all trying to move to the other side of the cut, to improve their T.V. signals -  you all know I have the patience of a saint, but I was not going to hang about on the off chance of a suitable slot for us! So we have come all the way back to our starting  point,  here is a bit about the basin, that we barely saw this time, we may move back there on Monday, and try again.

Plan of the Basin - as it would have looked in 1815

Bugsworth Basin is situated in the village of Buxworth, it used to be a hive of activity and was built to load limestone onto narrow boats for use in the industrial revolution towns and city's.

For years the Basin was not used and overgrown, it's now fully restored and very popular with boaters who don't watch formula  1 GPs

Will keep you posted on our plans, and where we end up despite them !

bye for now,
Baz and Ali.
