We are below the lock and the weir, the noise from the weir is a constant watery roar, thought it may keep us awake or keep running to the loo ! but it is a relaxing sound, and it does drown out the noise the toilet fan makes ( another story for a future post...... )
We have decided to get a bike, ready for the winter months, sometimes we are moored out of easy reach of even small shops, so the ability to pop out for milk or a paper without hours of walking will be nice, also help me in particular get a little fitter.
Abingdon centre, not a bad spot for a coffee, sadly we found this place after having a Costa!
Part of the pedestrianised area, with the church and civic buildings in the background
Good variety of shops, and easy to get around
What a way to explore the Thames, proper Jerome K Jerome stuff
The weir seen from the side hatch
With the zoom, swans waiting for .....err leaping salmon ??
Abingdon is understandably popular with boaters - narrowboats, cruisers, rowing boats and trip boats are cruising back and forth all day. Facilities here are good and there is pleasant mooring free for up to 5 days.
It does have a very busy feel but not in a 'Help let me out of here' way - not yet anyway.........
Bye for now
Baz and Ali
Hi guys; you look as if you had great fun in Abingdon. I went to school there for five years (didn't see much of the town centre, apart from a yearly compulsory church service when we all marched through the town wearing our school hats!!!!!!!!!). The town centre is rather nice, though. Love the way ali demonstrates her bread making skills - I'm peckish, Ali, can I have a slice or two please for breakfast? Lots of love, Sister R x
