A Load Of Bull

An early start was in order to try and beat the forecasted rain, so keen were we that we set off without our canal bank mat, not fond of it enough to go all the way back and collect it, we decided we needed a new one anyway.
A nice cruise to Braunston, a well known centre for the canal users and enthusiasts, in fact next weekend there is a vintage narrow boat event, we  of course will have to hide our modern boat further down the cut, but may walk back to have a look at what, even if we had the spare money, I probably would not get away with buying.
It's now after 4.30 pm we still have had no rain, not complaining, could have had a lie in though. We are moored a short walk from the shops and other facilities ( 3 pubs ) that Braunston offers, as we walked to get a bag of healthy chips in the town, we both noticed that we were short of breath and a little too warm even for this humid, muggy day, then we spotted the reason, we were walking up a slight hill ! You can almost forget hills on the cut, for some reason they tend to be constructed on flat landscapes, so for those that know where we used to live, Stony path would kill us both now and the B..... chippy had just closed!

Passing a nice boatyard that seemed, to specialise in the older boats.

Today's water road, took us under some interesting bridges and the M45

Looking across the cut, we spotted a large chandlery, we are now the proud owners of two life jackets, and a lot poorer.

The Grand union canal, we have to take a short cruise on it to continue down the Oxford canal.

This cow seems to have really odd udders !

To the rear, there is a bridge that takes you up the hill to Braunston.

To the front, the junction with the G. U. canal.

We seem to have been moving at quite a rate ( canal speed wise ) so we aim to spend the weekend  here, explore, visit the chandler again, stock up on some spares, and some shiny bits of metal to fit on the boat....maybe! Then we continue towards Banbury and Oxford.
Bye for now,
Baz and Ali.
