Braunston

We set off to explore Braunston, our first aim was to look at the marinas, and then the village, we had tried the food at the old plough yesterday evening, we both agree, the worst fish and chips we can remember, our instinct was to leave after a drink, and we really wish we had trusted our first impressions, for all our interest in local pubs  we don't go in them often these days, and a meal is a rare treat, or should be, still, we don't have to go in again, poor locals!

There are three boat yards and a marina situated in a short stretch of the canal, the main one is Braunston marina, this does pretty much everything, and is worth a look around ( if you are interested in all things boat that is ) a boat cafe is moored nearby, serving from a simple  cup of tea to a cooked breakfast, there is also a canal gift shop ( location reflected in the price of goods ) A walk up the hill takes you into the village, a one horse town kind of place, although neat and tidy, it for us, lacks something.
It sits on the hill a few hundred feet above the canal, the church is an impressive size for such a small village, there is also an old windmill, now without sails, and what would appear to be plastic upvc windows tastelessly fitted, the houses represent all periods, and are mixed together along one main street.

Braunston marina, it will all be happening here next weekend.

Old work boats start to gather.

Closer up you can see that they are immaculate.

Canalware shop, by the first lock.

The village of Braunston, Aloof on the hill.

An old windmill, not the best conversion we have seen. after yesterdays bull I will say no more.

The church, with a tall spire and the hill to help, can be seen for miles.

Some of the older houses, on the main road.

Our plan is to stay here, every time we go up the hill, we come down with a couple of bags of provisions, we should be stocked up and off on Monday.

Bye for now,
Baz and Ali.
