Oxford Canal

After a quiet night north of Bedworth, we set of to join the Oxford canal at Hawkesbury junction, an interesting junction for us, two ninety degree turns in quick succession, as we were early and there being no gongoozlers to watch our manoeuvrings, we knew all would go well, and it did ( another 10 years we could be boaters! ) No sooner than we were round the two turns, we had a stop lock to get through, and then ....the Oxford canal.

We had intended to go right into Coventry town centre today, but we will do that on our way back, and maybe the Ashby canal too. Although time is not an issue for us, we think we should do our reconnaissance of the Banbury and Oxford areas before the schools break up, probably will still be very busy, but at least we will have tried to beat the holiday boat rush.

We had to pull in and moor before noon, get this !..... because it was too hot!!  we were worried mainly about the dogs, who like to be with us up top and were panting,  as there was no shade for them, we must try to remember this day on the more common, wet, cold , cruising days.

Hawkesbury junction, hard to port, under the bridge, and the same again, taking us through a 180 degree turn.

We have to get right round to the left, and not put Micky into the saloon bar in front ...shame.

Snug in the stop lock, the pub now behind us on the left of picture.

As we came round the bend, this boat was blocking the way, attached to the bank by only a stern line, it had drifted across the canal, we managed to squeeze through, pushing it back to the side, somebody's got a surprise when they wake up !

We rudely interrupted this cow giving birth, she did'nt seem to mind us passing. The new born calf is safe in Mum's shadow

We are moored at a place called Ansty, quite close to the junction of the M6 and M69, not that you would know it. we had been alongside the M6 for a mile or so, but it was hidden behind the hedges, we certainly could hear it .

To the front.

And the rear.

Now,.....this does look interesting, may check it out later.

Our plan now, enjoy the sun, nice salad, and plan tomorrows cruise, if we can fit it in !!

Bye for now,
Baz and Ali.
