Storms Over Lechlade

We sit on the boat putting this blog together in a real " cor blimey " thunder storm, the dogs are at our feet, I am wishing I had taken the 12 foot metal aerial down before the heavy rain and lightening started, as we are moored on a low stretch of flood plain below the bridge in Lechlade and the highest point for some distance is us !
We had moved away from Kelmscott on Sunday morning, partly because it was a lovely day, so a potter along the Thames appealed, and partly due to the fact that after an hour, talking to three different people in various countries,we had been un able to top our internet dongle up ! ( well done 3 ) we therefore needed a town, to catch a bus, and get to the 3 store in Swindon, sorted in a couple of minutes, thank goodness they still have shops with honest helpful people in them.

Lechlade is as far as we can go up the Thames or Isis as it also know as, and we have moored close to the centre of this historic town, given a market town status in 1210 a real " pillars of the earth " town. The area is dominated by the church's spire, we are close to Ha'penny bridge, as the name may suggest, a toll was taken to cross it, now you just have traffic lights.

A gentle cruise up the Thames, some interesting bends for long boats

Ha'penny bridge, viewed from the bow of our boat

Uninterrupted view from the side hatch

And at the stern

As the dongle is sorted, we can relax and enjoy the area for a few days, the storm has passed, we still have an aerial. We may go out and look at the shops, a mix of the essential and antique shops, with a light sprinkle of charity shops ( so far ) even a Christmas shop !!!!

Bye for now,
Baz and Ali.
