Grounded

How does this sound to you ?

We are on a river, it has rained for a couple of days now, some of it heavy, best check the lines before turning in, as the water level could start to rise in the night, they are fine, bit of slack, but we are fairly tight to the bank.
Sounds right to me ( novice boater )

We woke at silly o'clock in the morning, having slid down the bed ( cross bed ) we suddenly seem to have self closing doors, and either we had had a good night with the wine, and forgot, or the boat is leaning to the side. On standing up the worst was confirmed, we were most definitely at an angle, more expected on a tall ship, than a narrow boat, having pulled on some shorts Baz went out to investigate, Where has the b......y Thames gone? was heard a few minutes later, the river level had dropped, we were sitting in the mud, at the stern anyway, our mooring lines were so tight, they could provide a string accompaniment to any musical performance, so tight  that slacking them was a real pain, and too late, the water had moved away, so even when loose we were going nowhere.
On deciding there was nothing to be done until morning, we returned to bed, Ali to sleep, Baz to ponder on what the heck to do in the morning.

In the morning we were again afloat, had it been a bad dream ? does more water coming down as rain make the river level go down ! ? or as we suspect, during the night somebody was extracting water, for farming or reservoirs ?  Oh well,  alls well that ends well, but, ..... what to do tonight is the question.

The round house, for us the turn around point of the Thames

The mighty Thames looks a bit tame here, where it meets the Thames and Severn Canal ( restoration reqd )

Our new local, The Riverside, with the church spire in the background marking Lechlade centre

The church seen from a walk in along the river

A swan wisely checks river depth before mooring for the night

We are staying in Lechlade a few days, partly because it's a nice spot, and partly because with rain forecast and no hurry, why get wet ?
We had a wander around the antique shops today ( thank goodness Baz's mums not here, we would never get her out of them ) and are now looking forward to a lazy afternoon and home made Shepherds pie.

Bye for now,
Baz and Ali.
