Having spent 45 minutes trying to wind, using poles to smash the ice both ends of the boat we finally were facing the right way for Chester. Due to being rather busy we regrettably didn't get pics of this event, however some amused Gongoozolers (canal onlookers) were very busy with their phone camera, we suspect we are now on YouTube!
The canal was fairly icy for most of the trip but luckily another boat had been just up ahead of us so the going wasn't too bad.
We passed the Middlewich Arm and Barbridge and are now moored at Calveley which is rural, though a main railway line runs nearby. It will be very muddy here when the snow thaws, so the plan is to move in a day or so. Ahead lies Bunbury staircase locks which will be a new experience for us.
The Davenport Arms hostelry is about 800 yards away, we've had hot showers and a light lunch so I feel a beer tasting coming on!
Just needs Gin and a slice of lemon |
Sun is over the yard arm |
This bridge is the entrance to the Middlewich branch of the Shroppie |
The boat that has been in front was seems to be weaving - had he stopped for a quick half at The Davenport Arms? |
Well the pub is calling so will sign off now.
Bye for now Ali and Baz.
