Our Daily Bread

We had an eerie night,  around us the canal was freezing over and we could hear it as we lay in bed.it's hard to describe the noises on our metal hull.....creaking, scraping other times noises that sounded like something under great pressure final giving way to superior force, one can only imagine what it must have been like for the early Artic explorers as their ships were trapped and squashed by real ice ......of course our fire also decided to be temperamental on one of the coldest nights, we have been burning some Anthracite and it's not breaking down to ash very well thus clogging the fire with cinders that won't riddle through ..... we have emptied it this morning and normal service has been resumed.
Micky Jay, ice creeping in around us.
BOAT SPOT........The Galley     or the other engine room .

Our galley is a very important part of the boat, of course it is compact, but it's been well planned for ease of use and has masses of storage space. We are finding that we can prepare exactly the same sort of meals that we have always enjoyed and now that we have more time Ali is able to indulge her love of baking bread ,cakes, biscuits and so on. We did bring the breadmaker with us but so far have not used it as making bread by hand is much more enjoyable. Our generously sized food cupboards are packed with enough foodstuffs to feed an army - the recent cold weather has turned us into hoarders, even if we end up frozen  in the countryside we will have plenty to eat! We do have a full sized fridge (12 volt) but we miss the oversized American style fridge that we used to have - however the large kitchen cupboard stays very cool so there's plenty of space for beer! There is a small chest freezer hidden under one of the bench seats in the dining area, we haven't used it yet because it is power heavy and we are managing to make ice for the gin and tonics in the fridge icebox!

We don't know what we will end up doing tomorrow, our plan is to move further up the cut but as we are putting together this blog the wind has got up and a little snow is falling so .......we will let you know.

Bye for now       Baz n Ali
