Blow Out

We got our fish and chips yesterday evening, Ali was a goody two shoes having plaice in a sauce with fresh veg, me, well had to be the full fish chips and mushy peas ( the real deal ) having asked for a large piece of fish ( extra charge ) a very large fish was duly delivered, hanging off the plate at both ends, it looked great, until a knife was placed into the batter, then after an eruption of steam and a noise rather like an escaped balloon going down, a small cod fillet was found lurking in a corner of the batter, it tasted fine but the batter had obviously been on steroids, it was an OK meal, we have had far better, on our fish and chip trail odyssey.

This morning it was time to fill the fridge with nice things from the butchers ( sorry Carol ) we try to use small local businesses when we can, partly to help them survive the big supermarkets and partly because they are better, the shops here are very good, traditional in their appearance with good service and products, the main shopping area is small but we got all we needed.

View down the main street, from the chippy.

And back up the street, towards the butchers shop.

Deceptively large  butchers shop, with a selection of fresh quality veg too.

We both took the dogs for a good walk this morning in an attempt to work off a few calories from last night's meal.
Baz's sister-in-law, Dawn is popping over soon with the children who are on Easter hols.
We're hoping to go for a friday evening pint later - wonder what the inside of a pub looks like?

Bye for now
Baz and Ali

  1. What impresses me the most about these pictures, apart from the (apparent) size of the fish Baz is tackling (pity it deflated when cut into!!!), is the fact that there is much blue sky evident; wow..... Hope you have been enjoying a bit of sunlight, guys, albeit accompanied by a brisk wind.
Lots of love, Sister R x
