A night in the shadow of Clarence mill was quieter than expected, the only problem was the amount of light from street lights etc, we tend to forget ( thankfully ) about street lights when most times we go for rural moorings,we could almost tell the time by the light levels until last night, it never really went dark .
Day break and Micky can be seen moored in front of a " dark satanic mill " now a mixture of small businesses, cafe, discovery centre and living accommodation, a skim through it's history reveals a chequered past, built late in the industrial revolution to benefit from the then new canal, it seems it came a little late for the boom times, and has been under used ever since, during the war it was a home for American troops before D day.
Sun just starting to shine on the side of the mill and chimney.
Front of the mill facing across the valley.
Chimney, safely pictured from the bottom looking up, rather than top down....didn't have a ladder handy!
most of these chimneys have been demolished as they expensive to maintain and of course redundant.
like most of the workers!
We have had a quite day so far, a trip to the laundrette was our first task, and always exciting, Ali has also had a browse of the local library, and we may give the dogs another walk to make up for yesterday, for when we travel they often get a bit bored, being clipped to the stern for safety .
bye for now,
Baz and Ali.
