Mickey Jay and amateur crew moved away to plan, no real ice on the cut, a few places where it was like sailing on a giant slush puppie ( who remembers them? ) but nothing to slow us down this time, after two swing bridges and a hour or so of cruising we came to the marina in Macclesfield where we stopped for coal (big relief in this weather) and to swap a gas cylinder.
We continued to the town of Bollington, and have moored in the shadow of Clarence mill, pretty much in the town centre, so we guess there will be more noise than we are used to, but the towpath is dry. We plan to explore tomorrow and try the chippy out that our Pearson's Guide brags is to a high standard in their blurb, we look forward to checking out this claim.......for research only of course.
Baz did want to stop for this log but was persuaded to let it be this time.
pulled in at the marina, not always the easiest of moves, but this one was fine.
Delightful modern bridge clearly showing how man has developed and improved his skills over the centuries making the snake bridge of a few blogs ago look basic and dated!!!!
One for Phil who looks forward to pictures of Archie.
We start to see hills around Macclesfield.
We picked up a useful map of Bollington which describes it as 'Cheshires hidden gem'. During the industrial revolution it was a thriving cotton mill town and of course still has the majestic Adelphi and Clarence mills as part of that legacy. The town is set in a valley surrounded by wonderful countryside. Looking at the local map there are some great walks and several monuments to visit - we'll keep you posted.
Bye for now
Baz and Ali
Beautiful photo of those dogs!
