What a Swizzle

You know we said we would not do long days in future? Well we have just done it again, we started with the best of intentions, a quick hop to Marple, fill up the water and moor there.
It started to go wrong within the first few minutes, when reversing the boat to turn it was apparent that we had either done some damage when we picked up debris on the prop last Saturday, or we had more rubbish wrapped around it again  -  so soon -  we had only just started ! ....we completed the wind and pulled in to some vacant long term moorings to check it out, this involves removing the weed hatch to gain access to the prop, and indeed there was a thick plastic sack wrapped around it, this removed we set off as planned, after our pit stop, we tried to moor just past the service area, only to run aground, this is due to the poor condition of the banks ( yes we can again blame the banks ) the edging stones have fallen in to the canal, making getting along side impossible for Micky Jay, we tried a few other spots along the route and found a similar story, or there were no gaps. So we are now just past New Mills near the Torrs park nature reserve.

View from our mooring, hazy conditions as we moored.

The other side not so good , train line passes quite close to us.

Somebody's dream boat burnt out and dumped,

Sunrise this morning on what we thought would be a short cruising day.

On our way through New mills we passed the factory that makes  the Swizzles sweets, both Ali and I looked like the Bisto kids as our noses followed the sweet aromas escaping the factory, especially as it was by then past 2 pm and we had not eaten.
We are both disappointed with the condition of the Peak canal and the last stretch of the Mac, rubbish and collapsed banks, such a shame for this otherwise beautiful area, but hey, take the bad with the good.

Bye for now
Baz and Ali.
