Move Along There

We started the day early, but not as early as some, one boat went by at around 6-30 a.m. and two more had passed before we pulled pins and left Stone at 7-30 a.m. We say left Stone, that's not strictly true, for our first job was to reverse to the waterpoint a few hundred meters behind us, where we managed to get two loads of washing done and a third load on, before we left it, now how to dry it all ?

Time was not an issue, or destination, so a slow cruise until the washer has finished the third load, and a good spot for the solar, somewhere  in the sticks was our plan, after one lock a suitable mooring came into view and we are now moored at Burston, nearly three miles further down the cut, we really must stop doing these long distance cruising days!

Ali, at the helm and loving it.

Dogs wonder where we are, as we work our only lock of the day.

The water road.

View From The Side Hatch

Port side, to the rear, wide and peaceful, just right.

Port side, forward,much the same.

The village of Burston is described in the Nicholson map guide as 'A hamlet apparently untouched by modern times'. The ever present railway line is not far away but does not intrude on the peace and quiet of the chocolate box cottages clustered round a very attractive pond. There are footpaths to follow and stiles to climb, so if the sun comes out as promised tomorrow a walk may be taken.
We enjoyed Stone very much, it's always nice to explore a new town, especially as while we were there there was a great 'foodie' market and the sun was out most days - however we really relax when we moor up in the countryside, spending more time on the towpath doing bits of boat maintenance and watching the dogs romp around.

Bye for now

Ali and Baz
